Greetings Members and Distinguished Guests,

We would like to extend a wholehearted welcome to the City of Chandler, AZ. It is an honor to be hosting the 2022 National Haitian American Elected Officials Network (NHAEON) Leadership Retreat in our beautiful city. With over 200,000 residents, Chandler is the perfect place to hold such a prestigious event.

Demographically, Chandler’s can be viewed as a melting pot of various cultures and traditions. Our communities have proliferated since its incorporation in 1912, and it continues to develop in diverse forms. Amidst the global pandemic and economic challenges, Chandler made history by electing its first Black women into city council. Councilwoman Honorable Christine Ellis, holds the office as both the first Black woman in Chandler and the first Haitian American elected official. This momentous victory is such a prominent point in Chandler’s political dynamics because it brings the much needed diversity and inclusion in governing a city.

Hosting the 2022 NHAEON Leadership Retreat for an organization consisting of elected officials across the nation represents the basis of community engagement that Chandler upholds in its daily functionalities. It only fuels our motivation to foster a collaborative relationship with you all, and leaves hope for such a union to grow and flourish into something greater. It is with immense honor that we can combine our visions for enhancing the rights of disproportionate communities in our society, and we look forward to strengthening our bond for the betterment of them.

We open our city to you and your guests to fully take advantage of the many amenities available. Chandler is well-known for its hospitality, and we hope that you can experience the exceptional dining locales as well as the Entertainment District offered in the Downtown area. We highly recommend extending your visit beyond the Leadership Retreat and grabbing a show at the Chandler Center for the Arts. Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact my office by phone at 602-723- 7712 or email: retreat@nhaeon.org.

We look forward to seeing you here!

The NHAEON National Leadership Retreat is held every year since 2009 as a method to continuously connect and engage with our members on a wide variety of issues affecting the Haitian American community in the United States and to discuss ways to foster better relationships between the United States and Haiti. The 2022 theme is “Moving Forward, Together!”. This year’s Retreat will gather policy makers from various states who will engage in discussions of major policy issues and is determined to improve relations between the United States as well as in Haiti. This retreat will convene the largest gathering of Haitian American leaders across the nation in the Grand Canyon State. Nearly 500 business, community, and non-profit leaders will attend the events.
